What is antifouling? How to choose the right one.
Guide on choosing antifouling for your boat
Antifoulingor is an exterior paint applied to the hulls of boats and ships that acts as an anti-fouling compound. It contains biocidal elements which are gradually released into the water, preventing or slowing down the adhesion of micro-organisms. When a solid material is submerged or in contact with water, it is exposed to the natural process of biofouling.
Biofouling is a phenomenon that occurs in various materials, such as wood, stone, metal and plastic. Often this phenomenon is observed in marine structures such as boats, buoys, marine platforms, metal structures in fish farms, etc. It is important to note that more than 4000 plant and animal species contribute to the processes of biofouling.
The mechanism of biofouling follows a four-stage process in which micro-organisms attach themselves to the hulls of vessels and cause biofouling. First, a substrate of organic material, such as polysaccharides and proteins, is created. Then bacteria, microalgae and other microorganisms form the biofilm. In the third stage, the presence of microbes accelerates the deposition of other organisms, such as fungi and protozoa. Finally, in the fourth stage, shellfish and macrophytes attach.
How to choose the right antifouling for your boat?
The mullion is suitable for all types of boats, regardless of the material of construction, be it polyester, wooden, metal, speedboats, semi-submersibles, boats, ships, etc.
The choice of a suitable davit depends on several factors, such as:
Speed of the vessel.
The speed of the boat, whether it is wooden, polyester or metal, etc.
The depth of the mooring.
The frequency of use of the vessel.
The depth of the antifouling, the number of moorings, the frequency of use of the boat, the number of moorings, the number of days the boat is used.
